Now and then, a story touches your spirit so deeply that it stays with you. The journey of Mr. Chet A. Bennett, founder of the C. Alan Foundation in Washington, DC, is one of those stories — and it has personally inspired me in more ways than I can count.
In 2018, Chet’s world shifted abruptly when kidney failure placed him on dialysis. Week after week, he fought through exhaustion, emotional strain, and uncertainty, all while carrying himself with the grace and determination that so many in our community have come to admire. His miracle arrived when a former student stepped forward and gave him the ultimate gift — a kidney and a second chance at life.
Chet and I have been friends for many years. He is near and dear to my heart, and beyond his remarkable strength, we share something deeply rooted: a lifelong love for the beauty industry and the people it serves. Together, we have seen how beauty professionals uplift, encourage, restore confidence, and bring joy — and Chet has carried that same spirit of service into his advocacy for dialysis patients.
His experience didn’t just transform his life; it created a movement of compassion, dignity, and community. From that transformation, the Annual C. Alan Foundation Holiday Celebration for Dialysis Warriors was born.
